In the Givat-Ram campus, there are two useful WiFi networks:

  1. HUJI-guest
Anyone can use this network, and access the internet. no password is required, and it just works.
However, it does not let you connect to special services outside of the university, such as workplace VPNs, non-standard port HTTP, etc.
  2. HUJI-staff-stud
If you are a student or staff, you can use this network. It gives you two major advantages over HUJI-guest:
    1. You get access to academia resources, such as arxiv, and other online services that the university is subscribed to.
    2. You get access to any nonstandard internet services, such as work VPNs, and mostly all other TCP/UDP traffic.

In order to use this network, you should do the following:

    1. Connect to HUJI-staff-stud, and let your computer acquire a network address
    2. Open a browser, and point it to http://www.huji.ac.il - you will get the Cisco router webpage.
    3. Click the button at the bottom to login to the Cisco network, then close the popup window.
You will now be transferred to the Tango system.
    4. If you're using Firefox (and you should), then it will warn you that your computer cannot be scanned. Press the button.
If you're using Internet Explorer (and you shouldn't) then it will scan your computer with an ActiveX control. A tedious process that takes a lot of time and gives you nothing. At the end, press the button.
    5. You will be presented with the Tango login screen. Enter your username and RAS password.
NOTE: If you have an OTP system, use your CS username with "%tcs" at the end, and the OTP as password. for example: myusername%tcs
If you don't have an OTP, you will need to open an account with the RAP, using a computer in the computer farm (Sprinzak, underground floor), or from home, or using a friend's computer.
Go there to http://rap.huji.ac.il, and follow the instructions.
    6. Once inside Tango, click Connect. This time don't close the popup window, as it is what lets you access the internet.

Once you're done using the internet, you can close all windows, including the last popup window. and that's it.

Side note: if using Firefox, you can automate the 6 steps above with Greasemonkey, so that all you need to do is enter the OTP password. I may upload the scripts for this sometime in the future. For now it is left as an exercise for the reader :)
